It is definitely a good place to visit and see the architecture, mammoth structure being built in Indian history by Indian Rulers. There are 2 shops near the first entrance to the right where tourists may buy memoirs. The temple was built by the Maratha rulers of Thanjavur. Punnai Nallur Mariamman Temple- This sacred destination is only 6.5 km from the Thanjavur town. People visitng the temple may buy offerings from within the temple premises at affordable rates. The Ramaswamy temple depicts the paintings of Ramayana and is the only shrine where Lord Hanuman is playing a veena instead of reading the Ramayana. The temple is pretty quiet in the morning and could be the best time to visit and avoid crowd. The temple is, at 65 m high, one of the largest Chola period buildings. Within the temple courtyard there is separate temple of Lord Sri Ganesha (second son of Lord Shiva), Lord Sri Kartikeya (first son of Lord Shiva), Goddess Sri Parvati (wife of Lord Shiva). The Brihadishvara Temple (side view), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. A huge Nandi statue can be seen in direct view of Shiva lingam which is placed outside the temple under a separate roof. We paid donation to visit the inner sanctum wherein we could closely observe the Lord Shiva Lingam. We got the opportunity to attend the morning rituals wherein the temple priest offers prayers and there is music going on in the back ground. We decided to visit this place as it is rated as Cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site. I travelled from Kumbakonam by private car and its around 36km from my hotel. I visited this place with my family (wife and daughter) during morning hours at around 10:00.
